Relay for Life is a chance to have fun and fight cancer

Thank you for a great article ('Cancer society's Relay for Life event will debut in Willow Glen this spring,' Feb. 21) about the new American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Willow Glen.

Kate Carter did a truly wonderful job of putting all the pieces of our interview together. The article will go a long way in helping to inform the Willow Glen community about Relay for Life, an event that highlights the fight against cancer and brings hope to us all the disease will be conquered.

If you or a friend, relative or co-worker have ever been diagnosed with cancer, then you will understand the need for continued research. Many people in our community have been touched by this disease. Relay for Life is an opportunity for the Willow Glen community to come together in this fight against cancer and enjoy some fun, food, games and entertainment at the same time.

The relay is an all-volunteer event, so we are relying on community members. Anyone who wishes to participate in any way, may contact me at 408.267.5417, or call the Relay for Life hotline at 408.879.1032, ext. 170.

I need to apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused to anyone for the cancellation of the March 3 meeting. I invite you to contact me personally at the above number and also invite you to our future meetings on 3 Wednesdays: March 28, April 18, and May 9, at 6:00 p.m. at the American Cancer Society office at 1715 S. Bascom Ave. (near the corner of Hamilton and Bascom avenues). Everyone is welcome!

I also need to correct the part of the article that mentioned that the proceeds of the Willow Glen Relay for Life "are earmarked for breast, prostate and colo-rectal cancer." The Willow Glen event will highlight cancer education and activities about breast, prostate and colo-rectal cancers, but the proceeds will go to research and services for all cancers; with 50 percent of the proceeds staying in the Santa Clara Valley region.

Again, thank you for an article so supportive of our efforts.

    Correction

A recent article in the Willow Glen Resident ('Husband and wife team bringing taste of Tuscany to WG this spring,' March 7) incorrectly reported the former employer of Greg Russi. The story should have said he worked at Silver Creek Country Club. Also, his family is from Lucca, Italy, not his parents.
