Soccer Tryouts
The West Valley Youth Soccer League will hold boys under-13 class 3 (competitive) tryouts on March 23. For more information, call Hal Treat at 463-2426.
Girls Soccer Camps
Presentation girls soccer coach Mani Hernandez, who has taken the Panthers to the Central Coast Section finals in each of the past two seasons, will host a pair of soccer camps for girls on June 21-25 and June 28-July 3.
Hernandez, who led the Panthers to the CCS championship in 1997-98, will be the director for the camps that will be held on the Presentation field. Camps will cover technique, tactics and weight training.
The cost for each camp is $100, and players need to bring cleats and tennis shoes. The registration deadline is May 1.

Jags fall in semi's
A sensational 1998-99 season came to an end for the San Jose City College women's basketball team, but not until the Lady Jaguars had reached the semifinals of the state community college tournament.
The Jags knocked off Irvine Valley 75-67 in the quarterfinals before losing 66-47 to Sierra College in the semi's.
San Jose, 29-7 for the year, advanced to the semifinals with the 8-point win over Irvine Valley. Brie Ahern (Homestead) buried six three-pointers to finish with 18 points for the Jags, and Sue Reed tossed in 16 points in the win.
Courtney Keegan pitched in 15 points, including a pair of threes, and Brianne Prescott added 13 points, including three three-pointers.
Gina Paradiso (Cupertino) popped a team-high 14 points, but the Jaguars lost to Sierra in the semifinals. Prescott finished in double digits with 10 points, Reed and Keegan added eight apiece and Liz Coughran (Los Gatos) four.
Wedemeyer Gala
The Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration Gala, honoring outstanding Bay Area high school seniors, will be held May 20, 6 p.m., in the Imperial Ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel.
Special guests for the evening event include Peggy Fleming, Jan Hutchins, Michael Nouri and John Ralston.
Scholarships of $1,000 each will be presented to college-bound athletes who have overcome adversity or challenge and who have demonstrated a positive attitude in helping others.
