    Rams net wins

    The Willow Glen boys tennis team rolled to three victories last week to improve to 6-1 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.

    The Rams blanked Prospect 7-0 behind a 6-4, 6-3 win by Jose Ocampo at No. 1 singles, shut out Westmont 7-0 behind Ocampo's 6-3, 6-0 No. 1 win and beat Leigh 5-2 behind Ocampo's 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

    Loc Nguyen supported Ocampo with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Prospect. Nick Burggraff won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 and Eric Bursch won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.

    Barrett Lyons and Minh Phan teamed for a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles with Mike Nguyen and Alex Kane winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Nhan Vo and Tri Vuu winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.

    L. Nguyen pulled out a thrilling 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 2 singles in the win over Westmont. Burggraff won 6-4, 6-3 and Bursch won 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 in singles matches.

    Nailing doubles wins were Lyons-Phan (6-3, 6-1), M. Nguyen-Kane (6-0, 6-0) and Vo-Vuu (6-1, 6-3).

    Bursch and Ocampo were the only Rams to record singles wins against Leigh. Bursch won at No. 4 singles, then Willow Glen swept in doubles play with wins going to Lyons-Phan, M. Nguyen-Kane and Vo-Vuu.

    The Rams, now 9-1 for the year, visit Valley Christian on March 27 and Andrew Hill March 29 for a pair of 3:15 p.m. matches this week.

    In junior varsity action last week, De Phan and Bao Pham teamed for a 6-0, 6-1 win against Westmont and for an 8-1 win against Prospect.

    Golf team falls

    The Willow Glen golf team lost twice last week to powerful Leland, falling 197-246 at the Almaden Country Club and 198-236 at Santa Teresa. The Rams are now 0-6 in the Mount Hamilton Division.

    Rams lose

    The Willow Glen boys volleyball team dropped a 15-2, 15-7, 15-4 nonleague decision to Homestead last week, despite getting 10 kills from Mark Sarinana. The Rams slipped to 3-8 for the year with the loss.

    Freestyle Program

    Willow Glen will begin a freestyle wrestling program for those ages 6-18. The group meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-6:30 p.m., in the small gym at Willow Glen. For more information, call Willow Glen wrestling coach Phil Luna at 408.629.6881.
