Police case looking into association account is 'nonactive'

Detective sends Waligore a letter asking for him to contact them

    By Kate Carter

A police investigation into possible embezzlement of Willow Glen Business and Professional Association funds has stalled because the person who filed the complaint has not followed up with the police.

Bob Waligore, the association's former president, filed a complaint with the police on Feb. 22, claiming that Demetri Rizos, the association's former business manager, had misused business association money.

Rizos did not return phone calls made to his home.

Police detective James Ford, who was assigned to investigate the case, said he hadn't heard back from Waligore since their initial conversation. He said he still needs to get materials that Waligore said he had been collecting. Ford sent Waligore a "form letter" on March 23, asking him to follow up on the investigation he initiated, Ford said.

"He said he was going to meet with us and show us some documents," Ford said. "We just asked him to do that."

He said the case is in the department's nonactive file and there is no limit to how long it remains there.

Waligore said he had called Ford two weeks ago and hadn't heard from him. He also said he hadn't received a letter from Ford.

Waligore said it had taken some time to compile the documents Ford needs.

"I'm trying to comply with his request," he said. "It's not something I can put together overnight."

Waligore said he hoped to meet with Ford soon, perhaps this week.

Ford said that the investigation would consist of getting the documents collected by Waligore, as well as interviewing witnesses and the suspect. The investigation would likely last a week, he said, and if they find a crime has been committed they would send the case to the district attorney's office.

Waligore had told The Resident that his concerns were about more than 50 "questionable transactions"--checks that don't match what was recorded in the association's ledger-- that total $11,682.97 so far.
