Artichoke Half Marathon is off and running
It's spring, and runners will have some choices if they want to get off and running in weekend events scheduled throughout the area.
The Artichoke Half Marathon 10K run will begin at 9 a.m. on April 11 at Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero. The cost is $20 on race day, or $15 in advance. Every runner receives an artichoke. For information, call 1-510-223-5778.
The same day, the Heals for Meals event, a 10K with a 5K run/walk, will begin at Shoreline Park in Mountain View. Proceeds benefit the Community Services Agency of Mountain View. For more information, call 1-650-960-1711.
The Dream Run/Sleep Walk, a 5K, will be held on April 17, 10 a.m., at West Valley Community College in Saratoga. The cost is $15. For more information, call 741-4041.
The Challenge For Charity, a 5K and 10K event, will be held on April 18, 8:30 a.m., at Stanford in Palo Alto. The cost is $15 before April 10, or $20 after that. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics. For more information, call 1-650-947-0979.
Free Diamond Skills Competition
A free Diamond Skills competition for boys and girls ages 7-14 will be held April 18, 2-5 p.m., at San Jose PAL Stadium. For more information, call Laura Hardy at 277-5556.
Spring soccer camp on tap
De Anza Community College head soccer coach Kulwant Singh will host a spring soccer camp for players ages 5-16 on April 19-23, 9 a.m.-noon each day. The cost for the five-day camp is $95 per session, and the camp will be conducted at De Anza College. For more information, call 864-8745.
Fall football signups coming
It's time to start thinking about the upcoming fall football season, and youngsters living in the Willow Glen area can sign up as either football players or cheerleaders. For more information, call 723-3307.
Speed City Invitational
The Speed City Track Club Invitational meet will be held May 1-2 at Los Gatos High School for boys and girls ages 8-16. Field events begin at 8 a.m. with running events getting under way at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $4 per event or $16 per relay. For more information, call Cliff Scott at 448-9069.
