It was spring break for the San Jose Unified School District last week, but there was no vacation for the Willow Glen baseball team ... and no breaks either.

The Rams played a pair of games last week and dropped them both, falling 15-9 to Carmel and 4-3 to Los Altos, to slip to 4-10 for the year.

Junior Doug Dionne had a big day against Carmel, but the Rams ended up losing by a half-dozen runs.

Dionne clubbed two homers, one in the fifth and another in the seventh, and finished with three hits to lead the Rams offensively in the game. Dionne drove in six runs for Willow Glen.

Joe Sanchez, the only senior on the Willow Glen squad, ripped a double.

The Rams dropped a heartbreaker two days later, falling 4-3 to the Eagles.

Sophomores Chris Hobbs and Mario Montes belted two hits apiece to lead a seven-hit attack for the Rams.

Los Altos had just four hits in the game, but made them stand up for four runs and a victory.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead with a run in the second and Los Altos tied it in the third. Willow Glen went up with two runs in the fifth and took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. But Los Altos rallied for three in the sixth and held the Rams scoreless in the seventh to claim the victory.

Willow Glen will return to play this week in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League (BVAL). The Rams visited Westmont on April 9 and will host Santa Teresa on April 11 in a couple of 3:30 p.m. games.

    Soccer

Nathan Tom of Willow Glen and Taylor Numann of Presentation won special awards at the season's end when the BVAL coaches got together to select their all-league soccer teams.

Tom, a talented defender for the Rams, was named the sophomore of the year in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.

Joining him on the all-league first team was teammate Gilbert Lozoya, a junior defender. Senior midfielder Sal Rios and junior goalkeeper Salvador Palacio were named to the all-league second team.

Numann was selected the freshman of the year for the Panthers in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL.

The freshman defender topped a list of five all-leaguers from Presentation. Sophomore midfielder Andrea Lee and junior keeper Jennifer Tuttle were each named to the first team, and sophomore forward Nicki Nigos and senior fullback Morgan Brown were tabbed to the second team.

Willow Glen had four girls each winning all-league honors in the Santa Teresa Division.

Seniors Jenny Holt, a sweeper, and Lindsey Herauf, a stopper, were named to the first team, and junior defenders Stacy Bruni and Lucy Lynn were picked for the second team.

    Basketball

The Presentation girls basketball team, which finished second in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs and advanced to the Northern California tournament, placed four players on the all-league squad in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL.

Kirian Ishizaki was named freshman of the year in the league. The freshman guard was joined on the all-league squad by teammates Nicole Yarwasky, a 6-foot-2 junior center who was picked to the first team; Liz Cirone, a 5-foot-8 senior guard named to the second team; and Katie Mello, a 5-foot-10 junior guard tabbed to the second team.

Two Willow Glen girls earned all-league spots in the West Valley Division of the BVAL. Sequeena Holmes, a junior, was named to the first team and Edna Sison, a junior, was selected to the second team.

Willow Glen boys Keith Doleshel and Will Howsman were all-leaguers in the West Valley Division. Doleshel, a junior forward, was picked to the first and Howsman, another junior forward, was selected to the second team.
