    Tough loss for Presentation

Rams are on top in the league baseball race

Some losses are just tougher to take than others. And that's just the kind of loss the Presentation girls softball team suffered last week at the hands of rival Westmont.

The Panthers were a game up on the Warriors in the Mount Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League heading into the game last week. But Westmont handed Presentation a 3-2 defeat in 11 innings to lock the clubs in a second-place tie in the circuit.

The clubs matched runs in the first and again in the fifth, and they were locked in a 2-2 tie at the end of the regulation seven innings.

That's how it remained until the bottom of the 11th when the Warriors broke the tie with a run to win.

The heartbreaking loss left the Panthers with a 12-5 season record and a 4-2 mark in the division. Westmont is also 4-2 in Mount Hamilton Division play.

Shannon Linerud and Christina Dolores ripped two hits apiece for the Panthers in the game and Jana Arde slapped a double to round out the club's five-hit attack.

Linerud was tagged with the tough pitching loss, leaving her 7-3 for the year.

The Panthers were coming off of a tight 2-1 league win in eight innings over Oak Grove. Linerud was the winner in this game, tossing a five-hitter at the Eagles.

Oak Grove took the early lead with a run in the third, but Presentation tied it with a run in the sixth. This time it was the Panthers winning in extra innings when they scored the game-winner in the eighth.

Arde had two hits in the win for the Panthers.

Presentation had picked up a pair of wins that week in the Mission City Tournament. The Panthers knocked off Prospect 6-1, then handled Aragon 5-2.

Adrianna St. Cin fired a two-hitter in the win over Prospect. St. Cin pushed her pitching record to 5-0 for the year.

Priscilla Soria led the six-hit attack for Prospect with three hits and Ambre Durica cracked a double.

Linerud fired a five-hitter to drive the Panthers past Aragon. She helped her cause with a two-run triple.

Arde had two hits in the game and Soria knocked in two runs. Kristina Kordesch doubled in the win.

    Rams top Bucs

There was a big win last week for the Willow Glen baseball team.

The Rams were able to put a little distance between themselves and the rest of the Santa Teresa Division pack with a clutch 8-3 win over Piedmont Hills.

The win pushed the Rams to 9-1 in division play and to 11-4 for the year. Their only loss in league play was to Piedmont on the first trip through the schedule.

The Pirates, who were upset by Silver Creek last week, are in second place in the division at 7-4 and two and half games behind the division-leading Rams.

Mike DeBono homered and singled to drive in four runs to lead the Rams to the win over the Pirates. Gabe Candelaria and Daniel Rice also had two hits apiece in the game.

Bobby Hobbs was the winning pitcher for Willow Glen, running his mound record to 5-0.

Willow Glen will play two 3:30 p.m. road games this week against Prospect on April 10 and Mount Pleasant on April 12 before heading off for spring break.

    Netters win two

The Willow Glen boys tennis team won two matches last week in Santa Teresa Division play. Jose Ocampo won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to lead the Rams to a 4-3 win over Yerba Buena. The Willow Glen win over YB left both squads 9-2 in the division. Earlier in the week the Rams had edged Leigh 4-3. The Rams are 12-2 this season.

    Sarinana stars

Frank Sarinana powered 12 kills to lead the Willow Glen boys volleyball team to a 4-15, 15-1, 15-2, 13-15, 15-12 win over Oak Grove last week. The win left the Rams 3-0 in the Mount Hamilton Division and 7-13 for the year.
