Cops arrest suspects in robbery of Goodwill manager

Woman was unhurt and most of the money has been recovered

    By Kate Carter

A Willow Glen Goodwill store manager was robbed by two suspects as she went to make a deposit at a Willow Glen bank last week. Both suspects have been arrested and most of the stolen money recovered.

San Jose police arrested Cuauhtemoc "Temo" Suarez, 25, and an unidentified 15-year-old within two days of the April 2 robbery. The two are suspected of working together to rob the unidentified woman outside the Bank of America on the corner of Meridian and Foxworthy avenues.

The victim--a manager for the Goodwill Store near the corner of Meridian and Hamilton avenues--was carrying an unspecified amount of the store's money to the bank at about 1 p.m.

As the woman walked into the bank, police said, the 15-year-old "knocked" her and took from her purse a canvas money bag containing the deposit. Police said she struggled with her assailant, but he was able to escape in a blue Nissan Stanza that police say was driven by Suarez.

Detective Dave Gutierrez said a witness reported the license plate number to the police, and an officer located the owner of the vehicle at Sarasota Avenue in East San Jose. Gutierrez says Suarez was "related" to the vehicle and was identified after police interviews.

Police arrested Suarez, a former employee of the Willow Glen Goodwill Store, on April 3, and the other suspect was identified and arrested on April 4.

Gutierrez said he believes the suspects used their knowledge of when deposits were made to plan the robbery.

Calls to the Willow Glen Goodwill were referred to the main Goodwill office and were not returned.

The victim was not physically injured and most of the money was recovered, Gutierrez said.

Both suspects were booked, he said. Suarez was taken to the county jail and the 15-year-old was taken to juvenile hall, he said.

Police are asking anyone with more information on the case to call Gutierrez at 408.277.4166. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 408.947.STOP.
