Looking for former football all-stars
It was the summer of 1974 when a football game called the Santa Clara County All-Star Bowl debuted on the turf at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium.
It was only the beginning.
Since that time, it has grown to become a summer classic for high school football all-stars, and the event, now known as the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game, returns this summer for its 25th anniversary game.
To celebrate the event, game organizers--the Almaden Valley Rotary Club--invite all former all-star players and coaches to attend this year's game, set for Friday, July 23, at Spartan Stadium.
For more information on the anniversary game, and for former players and coaches to reserve their place at the event, write to All-Star Events, P.O. Box 20933, San Jose (95160), or send a fax to 268-2960.

Girls soccer camps on tap
Presentation girls soccer coach Mani Hernandez, who has taken the Panthers to the Central Coast Section finals in each of the past two seasons, will host a pair of soccer camps for girls on June 21-25 and June 28-July 3.
Hernandez, who led the Panthers to the CCS championship in 1997-98, will be the director for the camps that will be held on the Presentation field. Camps will cover technique, tactics and weight training. The cost for each camp is $100, and players need to bring cleats and tennis shoes. The registration deadline is May 1.
For more information, call Presentation at 264-1664.
