Construction set to start on adult day-care center

Clark House, where Willow Glen's first mayor lived, will host a reception on Saturday, April 25, as Live Oak Adult Day Services holds a ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction of its new adult day-care center there. The event begins at 10 a.m. at 1147 Minnesota Ave. and includes refreshments.

Live Oak plans to restore the front of the building to its original 1913 style, complete with period furniture in the front three rooms, and add a day-care facility for the frail elderly in the back, said Leta Friedlander, Live Oak's director.

The project includes grant funding from the city of San Jose and various other contributions, Friedlander said. Councilmember Frank Fiscalini and former Santa Clara County Supervisor Susanne Wilson are scheduled to attend the ceremony.

Live Oak's three other adult day-care centers are located in Los Gatos, downtown San Jose and Gilroy. For more information, call 354-4782.

CalTrain fares will rise this summer

Beginning July 1, it's going to cost a little more to ride CalTrain. The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board voted earlier this month to increase fares by 5 percent and to increase the daily parking fee from 50 cents to $1, a spokesperson reported.

The changes were approved following a public hearing. The board also decided not to eliminate the 1.89 percent discount on tickets purchased through CalTrain's Ticket-by Mail program.

In addition, the board set a public hearing for May 7 to consider increasing the cost of the monthly parking permit from $5 to $7.50 or $10. The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. at the San Mateo County Transit District Headquarters, 1250 San Carlos Ave., San Carlos.
