Crafts turn into sports funding at flea market

By Cecily Barnes

Antique dealers, craft vendors and people with too much junk in their garage will come together at Willow Glen High School on Saturday, May 2, to raise much-needed funds for the high school's Booster Club. Parent Carole Demkowski, who has single-handedly organized the flea market, says she hopes the event will raise at least $2,000.

"The money will go right into the Booster Club, and then each sport will say they need this or that much money, and it's voted on at the Booster Club meetings," Demkowski said.

In addition to the professional vendors and rookie participants, each grade level at Willow Glen High School will be given a booth to raise money for their class. So far only the sophomore class has signed up--they'll be holding a bake sale. The Booster Club will also host a food court with hot dogs, hamburgers, teriyaki chicken skewers and other goods.

"I'm planning on a very successful event to earn lots of money for our sports program," Demkowski said. "It officially starts at 6 a.m. and goes until everybody leaves."
