49ers coach speaks at Bellarmine Prep's council luncheon

Bill McPherson, a member of the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers for 20 years, will be the guest speaker at Bellarmine Prep's annual Alumni Council luncheon on May 6.

McPherson, a 1950 graduate of Bellarmine, is a defensive assistant on the Niners staff. He was a coach for all five 49ers Super Bowl teams.

The cost for the luncheon is $15 and it is open to the public. An 11:30 a.m. social will be followed by the noon lunch. Reservations are required. For information, call 294-9224, ext. 460.

Central Valley Soccer Tryouts

The Central Valley United Soccer League has scheduled tryouts for the following divisions at John Muir Middle School, Branham Lane between Almaden Expressway and Cherry:

Girls under-11 comp--April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., contact Bruce Ryon at 448-4452.

Boys under-10 class 1--April 19, 3-5:30 p.m., at John Muir Middle School; contact Matt at 292-7023.

Girls under-10 class 3--April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., contact Jim Lienhart at 267-2513.

In other divisions, the Central Valley Lightning, an under-13 boys class 3 team, will hold tryouts in April. For information, call Des Knuckey at 559-2045 or Steve Nestle at 371-5365.

The Central Valley Crunch, an under-12 girls select class 1 team, is looking for dedicated players (born after July 31, 1986) for the coming season. The team is trained by John Poch. For more information, call Tom or Marianne Chard at 298-4815.

The Central Valley Grizzlies, an under-14 boys class 3 team, will hold tryouts on April 19, 1-3 p.m., at Ida Price Middle School. For more information, call Cyndi or Dieter Rothmeier at 287-1546 or Roy Henninger at 266-2378.
