The Willow Glen ResidentAround The GlenLongtime resident aims to unite Glen for a good cause Michael Lehman is looking for a few good people to support the first annual Charity Bash in the Park in Willow Glen next month. By holding a cookout and raffle, he aims to raise money for several charities: Child Advocates, Sacred Heart Community and Second Harvest Food Bank. "I think businesses should do things like this to create unity within the community," he said. "I grew up here in Willow Glen. I would like to try to give something back." Lehman doesn't need volunteers for the event. Rather, he wants the community to come "see what these foundations are all about and to help out with the organizations." The one-day event will take place May 2 in River Glen Park, at the corner of Bird and Pine. For more information, call Lehman at 371-8191. --Christine M. "We're hoping to have a lot of people show up and spend a lot of money," she said. The school hopes to raise money to build an outdoor classroom, Kushner said. The auction will feature wine, food and entertainment provided by a DJ and three-piece jazz band. The event takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Silicon Valley Capital Club at 50 W. Lias Glenites clearly aren't pawns of the system Willow Glen residents Dave Brown and Robin Lindsay lent their collective brainpower to the fight recently, with stellar results. Their chess team at Bellarmine College Preparatory took first place in the 28th annual Santa Clara County High School Chess Championships in February, said Matthew Love, the team's moderator. Teams from 12 high schools participated in the event, which was held at Lynbrook High School in San Jose. Cupertino High School's team came in second, and Los Altos' team placed third, Love said. The two Glen juniors were joined on the Bellarmine team by Patrick Macaraeg of San Jose, Alex Chavez of Cupertino and Ben Kavanaugh of San Jose. Most of the Bellarmine team members play during their lunch hours four days a week, Love said. --Rebecca Wallace Seminar aims to aid domestic-violence victims and friends Having a friend who is struggling with domestic violence can make one feel helpless.
