    Photo: Characters come to life

Award-winning children's author Brian Jacques made an appearance at Hicklebee's Bookstore April 20. The Liverpool, England, resident was in town to promote his most recent book, 'Castaways of the Flying Dutchman,' which is about a boy and his dog who communicate telepathically as they travel through time. Children endured long lines in the rain for a chance to hear the characters come to life in a colorful narration by the author. Jacques also signed copies of his books.
