Holocaust, ghetto risings remembered
In commemoration of Yom Hashoah, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors, along with several other community groups, will host a Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony on May 2. This ceremony will remember the 6 million Jews who were killed during the Holocaust. Yom Hashoah is also the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising of April 1943.
The program includes a keynote address from Dr. Glenn D. Earley, who is the director of Holocaust Studies and Interreligious Relations for the National Conference for Community and Justice. Judge LaDoris Cordell and Charles Williams will perform a musical interpretation. Bishop Patrick J. McGrath will lead a candle-lighting ceremony.
Along with Holocaust Remembrance Day, a photo exhibit titled "A Holocaust Remembrance" from the National Conference for Community and Justice will be shown through May 5, in the County Government Center foyer.
The Holocaust Remembrance Day will be held from 3:45 to 5 p.m. on the first floor of the Board of Supervisors' chambers. Free parking is available in the employee lot on Hedding Street between First and San Pedro.

Fine houses grace annual home tour
Five Willow Glen homeowners will showcase their remodeled or redecorated houses for the 18th annual Willow Glen Lifestyles Home Tour. This year's Lifestyles homes range from a 1930s French provincial house to a contemporary monster home. The homes are not for sale but will be open to the public to visit and to get ideas for remodeling. Proceeds will benefit San Jose Day Nursery, a United Way child development center. The home tour tickets are $25 before May 7, and $30 after. Tickets may be purchased at Casa Casa, Comforts of Willow Glen and The Eclectic Touch. After May 7, the tickets will be available at the Willow Glen Elementary School parking lot. For more information, call the San Jose Day Nursery at 408.288.9667.

Senior housing project to get council hearing
The San Jose Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on April 26, at 7 p.m. in council chambers, for a rezoning permit in Willow Glen. The 1.8-acre parcel of land may be revamped for affordable senior housing. Developers from Related Companies will attend the meeting to answer questions from council members and residents. Upon approval by the planning commission and the City Council, the three-story project will be located at the triangle formed by Willow Glen Way, Northern Road and Cross Way.
Community housing developers plan to build a similar affordable senior housing complex across the street. The property should be up for a rezoning permit within the next month.
Both companies held community meetings in February and March. All residents within 1,000 feet of the property should have received notices from the Planning Commission.

Public input sought on District 6 parks
Glenites interested in lending city planners a helping hand in building future District 6 parks may attend the second of two meetings on April 27. Representatives from Frank Fiscalini's office and staff from the city's Parks and Recreation Commission will be on hand to tell Glenites about the city's 20-year plan for parks.
Planners and staffers are requesting comments from the community on its priorities for parks. Planners want to ensure that all San Jose residents have a park within a quarter-mile of their homes.
The plan, Creating Community, will improve parks, community facilities and local programs. The meeting will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1710 Moorpark Ave at 7 p.m.
