Flood protection wins support in Sacramento
Willow Glen homes have new hopes for a brighter, drier future. Assemblymember Mike Honda (D-San Jose) and local leaders who signed onto Honda's Guadalupe River flood protection bill, AB1147, gained overwhelming support in Sacramento at last week's Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee meeting. The bill passed unanimously.
The crisis-prevention legislation can now go before the appropriations committee and on to Senate. If it passes, the bill will serve as a linchpin in local flood control efforts by making the Guadalupe River project eligible for funds necessary to complete the project. Current estimates place project costs at $132 million--which is cheaper than the $200 million worth of damage that a severe flood could bring to the upper Guadalupe River area.

Willows Singers will rock at their 13th anniversary social
Members of the Willows Singer--past and present--are invited to a Lucky 13th Anniversary celebration on Friday, May 14.
"We're trying to have a reunion, more or less," director Alice Warren says. "Friday is our regular singing day, so we're just going to get together and talk over old times and have refreshments."
The party will be held at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Willows Senior Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave.
The Willows Singers have been in the local entertainment business for the past 13 years, singing at convalescent hospitals, the Alzheimer Center, retirement homes, churches and civic organizations.
"We sing old time, new time," Warren says. "We pick the songs for the people we're going to be singing to. Mostly, we sing for fun."
