Response teams ready to combat elder abuse

Emergency response teams are now available to seniors and dependent adults 24 hours a day. Under a new state law, all California counties are required to provide face-to-face emergency response teams to all reports of senior and dependent adult abuse. The response team will also provide victims with early intervention and case management services, including investigation, assessment, service planning and links to community agencies; provide emergency shelter, clothing and food services; and offer comprehensive assistance through multi-service teams that include law enforcement, public health, mental health and the area agency on aging and community agencies.

In Santa Clara County, the 24-hour reporting hotline is 1-800-414-2002. For more information on the service, call the Department of Aging and Adult Services at 928-3813.

Sangria plans party for Cinco de Mayo

Glenites can party Mexico-style at Sangria Restaurant's "Fiesta Mexicana" Cinco de Mayo celebration. The fiesta, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 5, will host half-price Chavela--"Pancho Villa's favorite drink," says co-owner Javier Ponce--and a dozen half-price entrees, including all the combo plates and traditional tasters.

The Willow Street bistro still isn't living up to its namesake, however. Sangria Restaurant doesn't serve sangria. "But we will soon," Ponce promises.
