    Martin blasts four homers

Brandon Martin was a slugging all-star during his days as a major division baseball player in the Willow Glen Little League.

And while those Little League days are far behind for the high school junior, he proved last week that he can still slug the baseball like an all-star when he pounded four home runs in three games to lead Valley Christian to first place in the rugged Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

Martin homered and singled to drive in two runs in Valley's 9-5 win over Del Mar to open the week, then he ripped a two-run homer in an 8-2 Valley win over Pioneer.

Martin capped the week with a pair of homers to knock in three runs for the Warriors in a 7-4 win over Westmont.

Not only did Martin have a great week individually (four homers, seven runs-batted-in), but Valley Christian had a good enough week with the three wins to move ahead of Oak Grove in the title race in the Mt. Hamilton Division.

Hard-throwing righthander Chris Houston, a former Willow Glen Colt League star, also had a big week for Valley Christian. Houston picked up two of his club's three mound wins, pushing his season record to 4-1.

    WG drops three

It was a tough week for the Willow Glen baseball team. The Rams lost three straight games to slip to 2-12 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL and to 4-17 for the year.

The Rams lost 12-2 to Mt. Pleasant to open the week. After falling 9-4 to Gunderson, Willow Glen was blanked 4-0 by Prospect.

    Panthers split

The Presentation girls softball team split a pair of games in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL, edging Oak Grove 7-6 before dropping a tough 6-4 nod to Mitty.

Kari White-Burk doubled and singled twice to drive in two runs, and Adrian St. Cin doubled and singled twice to lead the Panthers past the Eagles early in the week. Stacy Bolaris tripled for Presentation, and Denise Arde had two hits. Sara Wiedlin was the winning pitcher for the Panthers, pushing her season record to 5-2.

Presentation's record slipped to 17-8 for the year and to 4-5 in division play after a tough 6-4 loss to Mitty a couple of days later. Arde singled and tripled for the Panthers, and Bolaris doubled.

    Rams lose two

The Willow Glen girls, meanwhile, dropped two games last week in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL. The Rams lost 8-2 to Pioneer to open the week, then were blanked 2-0 by Piedmont Hills.

Nicki Garcia singled and tripled, and Desirae Dagnino had two hits, but the Rams lost to the Mustangs early in the week.

Pioneer scored four runs in the third to take the lead in the game, but Willow Glen answered with two in the bottom of the frame to make the game close at 4-2. But Pioneer added to its lead with one in the fifth, then put the game away with three in the seventh.

The Rams slipped to 3-7 in the division and to 7-9 for the year later in the week when they lost 2-0 to the Pirates. Willow Glen was held hitless in the game.

Garcia, who had lost the pitching decision against the Mustangs, was stuck with the tough loss against Piedmont. She allowed just single runs in the first and sixth.

    Swimmers win

The Willow Glen girls swimming team swamped Silver Creek 128-30 last week. The Rams evened their Santa Teresa Division record at 3-3.

Whitney Gregg and Kara Buchanan were each double winners for the Rams. Gregg took the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 freestyle, and Buchanan was first in both the 50 free and 100 butterfly. The two teamed with Courtney Livak and Allison Woodside for a win in the 200 medley relay and with Woodside and Kristan Livak for a victory in the 200 free relay.

Woodside took the 100 breaststroke, K. Livak the 200 free and Alicia Barreto the 500 free.
