The Willow Glen ResidentSports BriefsVanDerveer to speak at forum Stanford University women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer will be the guest speaker when the Silicon Valley Forum of the Commonwealth Club of California hosts a special program on May 19 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown San Jose. VanDerveer's topic will be "Having a Clear Vision" as she discusses her role as the Stanford head coach, as well as her experiences as the head coach of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team. The cost is $7 for members of the Commonwealth Club and $10 for nonmembers. The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and the program to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton, 300 Almaden Blvd. For more information, call 1-800-847-7730. 49ers coach to speak at Bellarmine Bill McPherson, a member of the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers for 20 years, will be the guest speaker at Bellarmine Prep's annual Alumni Council luncheon on May 6. McPherson, a 1950 graduate of Bellarmine, is a defensive assistant on the Niners staff. He was a coach for all five 49ers Super Bowl teams. Girls' Summer Basketball Camps A series of girls' basketball camps will be held at Santa Clara University this summer with sessions starting June 6 through July 31. For more information, call 294-7109 or 526-1600. LG Wrestling Camp The ninth annual Wildcat Wrestling Camp will return to Los Gatos for three sessions this summer. The camp begins with a session for beginner to intermediate wrestlers, ages 7-12, on June 29-July 3. The second session is for intermediate wrestlers in grades 6-9, and it runs July 6-10. The final session is set for July 13-17 for advanced wrestlers (those with high school or two years of junior high school experience) in grades 8-12. Camps run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and the cost is $110 per week. Each session is limited to the first 26 wrestlers. For more information, call Scott Downs at 354-2730.
