Rousseve leads Panthers to win
Booth is conference Player of the Week

Nicole Rousseve must have really wanted a win. And the Presentation pitcher wasn't about to sit around and wait for someone else to win the game for her when the Panthers visited Leigh for a softball game in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League last week.
So she did it herself. Rousseve ripped a two-run double in the third inning to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 win over the Longhorns.
Rousseve tossed a three-hit shutout to pick up the mound win, and she also came through with the big hit of the day. Her two-run double sparked the three-run rally in the third.
Shannon Linerud also doubled for the Panthers in the game.
But it would be the only win of the week for Presentation. The Panthers slipped to 5-8 in the division and to 9-14 for the year when they lost a lopsided 10-1 nod to Leland later in the week.
The Panthers ripped nine hits, four of them by Linerud, but could manage only one run in the game, a single marker in the first.
Rousseve blanked the Chargers over the first three innings, and the Panthers were clinging to the 1-0 lead head into the fourth. But Leland unloaded for five in the fourth and three in the fifth, and cruised from there to the win.
Presentation will close out the regular season this week, visiting Mitty for a 3:30 p.m. game on May 8.
Over in the Santa Teresa Division, Willow Glen lost 4-1 to Independence last week to drop to 3-9 in league play.
Howsman sixth
Will Howsman fired a five-over par 75 to tie for sixth place overall at the Blossom Valley Athletic League golf finals, held last week at the Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas.
Howsman, a junior, has now qualified for the Central Coast Section finals, set for May 7 at Rancho Cañada.
Rams top Saints
Junior hurler Justin Johnson went the distance to toss a two-hitter to lead the Willow Glen baseball team to a tight 3-2 win over Santa Teresa in Mt. Hamilton Division play last week.
John Gibilisco ripped a triple and Tista Perri doubled in the win for the Rams.
The Saints scored in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Rams came back with two in the top of the fourth, but Santa Teresa tied it with a run in the home half of the frame. That's how it remained until Willow Glen scored against in the seventh, and Johnson went out in the bottom of the inning to nail down the win.
Mario Montes had two hits and Doug Dionne doubled, but the Rams lost 5-2 to Leigh a game later.
Willow Glen slipped to 3-14 in the division and to 6-15 for the year after an 8-1 loss to Leland on Friday. Steve Rebagliati ripped a solo homer in the third to account for the only WG run.
Booth top player
Former Willow Glen baseball standout Steve Booth was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after hitting .421 with three home runs in four games for the USF Dons.
Booth, a 1997 Willow Glen graduate, was 4 for 6 with three homers and knocked in seven runs to lead the Dons to a win over Saint Mary's. He finished the week with a .421 average, a double, three homers and nine runs batted in. The catcher also threw out two runners attempting the steal.
Booth went on to play two seasons for coach Mike Perez at West Valley College after graduating from Willow Glen. He is a senior at USF.
Other former Rams currently playing baseball at the college level are 1998 graduate David Dudley, at Metro College in Colorado, and 2001 grads Bobby Hobbs, Pepperdine University; Matt Durkin, San Jose State University; and Nate McDonald, West Valley College.
