Dry Creek Road cartoon inaccurate
I can't help but make a few observations about the Steven DeCinzo cartoon in the April 17th Willow Glen Resident and comment on the issue of parking at Dry Creek Road alongside Willow Glen High School.
I teach at Willow Glen and my classroom looks out on the area of Dry Creek where the buses pass to drop off and pick up kids. The impact on this street has been insignificant since the bus zone was added. There are no more cars parking here now than there have been all school year. No busses load or unload anywhere near a private residence; the nearest home on Dry Creek is half a block away.
The displaced parking spaces (now a bus zone) have migrated to the front of the school, on Cottle Avenue.
I guess my daily interaction with this area has clouded my powers of observation, unlike DeCinzo, who must have the uncanny ability to cut to the heart of the matter without doing his homework.
Shame.

Impressed by children's letters written to paper
As the councilmember for District 6, I'm impressed by the letters that were sent to The Willow Glen Resident by 10-year-old Ashley Height and Alicia Allen in support of traffic calming measures on Johnston Avenue.
Traffic calming has been one of my highest priorities since being elected. In the more than 50 neighborhood meetings on traffic calming in District 6, I've heard time after time about the safety problems caused by speeding cars. The need for public support and continued vigilance is crucial to solve this problem. I'm proud of the progress we've made, but it's vital that support for these programs remains strong.
Thanks again to Ashley and Alicia for their efforts to make their streets quieter and safer.
