    PAL football signups

    Willow Glen PAL, a youth tackle football group affiliated with the Police Athletic League, is holding signups for players and cheerleaders for the 2000 season.

    Boys and girls ages 8-14 are eligible. For more information, call 408.723.3307.

    Soccer registration

    The Central Valley Youth Soccer League will hold registration for the fall season on May 13, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at Bagby Elementary School, Curtner and Leigh in San Jose.

    The league is open to boys and girls ages 4-18. The cost ranges from $65 to $75, and players must provide a copy of their birth certificate.

    Special Olympics

    More than 400 athletes are expected to participate in the annual Special Olympics track and field meet to be held May 20 at Independence High School in San Jose.

    Special Olympics is looking for people to act as chaperones for the athletes that day. A chaperone orientation will be held May 9, 7 p.m., at the Special Olympics office, on Chambertin Drive in San Jose.     Water polo club

    The Willow Glen Water Polo Club is expanding.

    The summer program is open to boys and girls ages 10-18, and practice will begin the week of May 22. The different divisions will hold practice sessions at different times, with most practices in the afternoons and evenings.

    Willow Glen coach Scott Kaubish hopes to end the summer program with a trip to the Junior Olympics in Orange County in August.

    Baseball tryouts

    The San Jose Cobras Youth Baseball Club, a traveling team for players ages 12 and under, is currently holding tryouts for the spring and summer seasons. Players must have all-star or tournament experience. For more information, call Brent Hatfield at 408.978.8183.

    Fencing classes

    The Fencing Center will hold classes in foil, saber and epee at its downtown San Jose location, 110 Stockton Ave. Equipment is provided, and classes are for those ages 9 and up. For more information, call 408.298.8230 or contact their website at www.fencing.com.
