The Willow Glen ResidentSports BriefsWomen in Golf Day to be held May 16 Women of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in Women in Golf Day, May 16, at three popular local golf courses--Summitpointe Golf Club in Milpitas, Aptos Seascape, and the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club. There will be free golf lessons, demonstrations, discussions of golf, tournaments, and putting contests at the three courses. Women in Golf Day is designed to introduce golf to women in a "fun, non-intimidating atmosphere." Pre-registration is recommended and golf clubs will be available for use. Lynx holding softball tryouts The Lynx, a 10-and-under ASA class A girls' softball tournament team, will hold tryouts on May 17, 4 p.m., at Oak Grove High School. Only the top 13 elite players will be selected for the Lynx, the only 10-and-under A team in Santa Clara County. Players must have a referral letter from a previous coach. VanDerveer is guest speaker Stanford University women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer will be the guest speaker when the Silicon Valley Forum of the Commonwealth Club of California hosts a special program on May 19 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown San Jose. VanDerveer's topic will be "Having a Clear Vision" as she discusses her role as the Stanford head coach, as well as her experiences as the head coach of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team. The cost is $7 for members of the Commonwealth Club and $10 for nonmembers. The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and the program to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton, 300 Almaden Blvd. For more information, call 1-800-847-7730.
