Bellarmine junior honored for harmonious graphicsDC Cohen of Willow Glen, a Bellarmine College Preparatory junior, was honored last month for his skill in computer graphics. His trio of logo designs for the Bellarmine yearbook won a "superior" medal, the top award given in the computer-graphics logo category at a Seattle convention sponsored by the Journalism Education and National Scholastic Press associations. About 4,000 students from yearbooks and school newspapers all over the country participated in the event, including 22 Bellarmine students, said yearbook adviser Steve Corder. The yearbook, "The Carillon," had a musical theme, and DC's logos were titled "Silence Before the Symphony," "Ensemble" and "Chant," to correspond with the yearbook's different sections, Corder said. "I knew that no one was doing anything like my work in the California area, but I had no idea what was being done nationally," said DC, 16, son of Resident publisher David Cohen. "People ask if I'll do this in college. It would be cool to get into movie special effects, but I don't know." "The Carillon" and Bellarmine's newspaper, The Cardinal, also won first-place "Best of Show" awards in the medium-sized yearbook and newspaper-specialty categories, Corder said. Brian Enriquez, who will be co-editor-in-chief of the yearbook with DC, won an "excellent" award for layout design theme, the second-highest honor. --Rebecca Wallace
