Agencies host events to gather public input on transit issues

A number of meetings are scheduled for the coming weeks to address local and regional transportation issues.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, which serves all nine Bay Area counties, is sponsoring a meeting with the Santa Clara County Cities Association to gather public comment on its 20-year Regional Transportation Plan. The plan identifies funding and strategies for transportation facilities throughout the Bay Area's nine counties.

The meeting is scheduled for May 17, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Santa Clara City Council Chambers, at 1500 Warburton Ave. For more information, call 408.299.3924.

The Valley Transportation Authority is also sponsoring community meetings to provide information and solicit comment about it's major investment study for the Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor. The corridor covers the 20 miles traveled largely by East Bay residents commuting to Santa Clara County.

The meetings are scheduled for May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Milpitas High School library room (1285 Escuela Parkway in Milpitas) and May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dr. King Main Library (180 W. San Carlos St. in San Jose.) For more information, call 408.321.5744, or visit www.vta.org/svrtc.
