    Espresso Garden hosts blues and soul singer

    Blues and soul singer Gwen Avery will perform on May 26, at 8 p.m. at the Espresso Garden and Cafe, 814 S. Bascom Ave, San Jose, to celebrate the release of her new CD, Sugar Mama. The show will include a finale with blues master and guitarist John Garcia, a local performer who has played with blues greats including B.B. King and Bo Diddley. Tickets for the performance are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For more information, call 408.298.0808.

    Lecture at church focuses on 'unity'

    The Second Church of Christ, Scientist will host a Christian Science lecture on May 19, at 3 p.m. at 2060 Cottle Ave. in San Jose. Dorothy Maubane, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science in South Africa, will speak on "Building Bridges of Unity." For more information, call 408.269.4570.
