Community Center hosts Big Chill Out teen event

For teenagers who say there's nothing for them to do in San Jose, the Gardner Community Center will host the third annual Big Chill Out on June 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gardner Community Center, 520 W. Virginia Ave., San Jose.

The free community event is geared toward youth, ages 13-17. Entertainment will be available for all.

The Big Chill Out will feature three local bands, DJs, a skate ramp and food. Organizations, including Planned Parenthood and the United Youth Center, will also have information booths at the event. For the younger participants, face painting and arts and crafts will also be available.

Darryl Tapaha, acting youth specialist at Gardner Community Center, said the event was modeled after the downtown San Jose SoFA Festival, without the alcohol.

"It's geared toward teens, the people that there's not a whole lot for them to do," Tapaha said. For more information, call 408.279.1498.
