Montalvo adds summer shows
Lineup includes salute to Charles Schulz
Tickets are on sale for "Montalvo Presents," Villa Montalvo's summer series of headline entertainers. Newly added is Club 80s: The Flashback Tour featuring Wang Chung, A Flock of Seagulls, Missing Persons and Gene Loves Jezebel on July 5, at The Mountain Winery; Jackson Browne on Sept. 5 and 6, at The Mountain Winery; former Beach Boy Brian Wilson on Sept. 19 and 20, at Montalvo's Garden Theatre and The Mountain Winery, respectively; and Kenny G. on Sept. 24, at Vasona Lake County Park.
The already scheduled Montalvo Presents shows for the first half of June are as follows:
* June 2: A salute to Charles Schulz by musician and composer David Benoit, who will perform an evening of carefree, jazzy ditties appropriate for the Peanuts gang and their creator. He also just released a new CD, Here's To You Charlie Brown.
* June 4: Hillary Hahn and Garrick Ohlsson. At age 19, Hahn has already gained the reputation as a violin virtuoso. Ohlsson is renowned for his large repertoire of piano music. The performance is the South Bay premiere of their upcoming collaborative recording.
* June 7: Pianist and singer Ray Charles, considered by many to be a master of jazz, gospel and ballads. His band, the Rayettes, joins him at Montalvo.
* June 9: The Cowboy Junkies, comprised of siblings Michael and Margo Timmons and their band are known for turning almost any song into an intimate, trance-like ballad. They recently released a new CD: Rarities, B-Sides and Slow, Sad Waltzes. James McMurtry opens the show.
* June 10: Brought to national attention for its music in the 1996 film Swingers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy play spirited swing music--zoot suits and all.
* June 11: Classical composer and keyboardist Keiko Matsui is one of America's best-selling contemporary jazz artists.
* June 14-15: Former Beatle Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band, which have been playing together since 1989, offer their own distinct version of rock music.
* June 15: Trumpeter Rick Braun and saxophonist Boney James, team up to play smooth jazz and soulful rhythm & blues.
* June 16: Eight-time Grammy Award winner Emmylou Harris has been a top name in traditional country and western music for years. She released her newest CD this April: Singin' with Emmylou Harris, Vol. 1.
All shows take place in The Garden Theatre at Villa Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga; The Mountain Winery, 14831 Pierce Road in Saratoga; or at Vasona Lake County Park, whose entrance is at the intersection of Blossom Hill and Roberts roads in Los Gatos.
