Jeff Kearns named as new editor of Resident

Jeff Kearns has been named editor of the Willow Glen Resident, according to Dale Bryant, managing editor, Silicon Valley Community Newspapers.

Kearns, a 1997 graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, began his career in community journalism later that year at the Los Gatos Weekly-Times, where he covered general news and local government. He moved in fall 1999 to the Cupertino Courier, where he continued his government beat, but also expanded his focus to include police reporting and education. Both publications are part of Silicon Valley Community Newspapers.

At LMU, Kearns majored in English. He advanced to managing editor of the school's weekly newspaper and that same year was co-editor of the yearbook and editor of the literary magazine, L.A. Miscellany.

In addition to his reporting career, Kearns has also worked as a photojournalist for all the SVCN community papers, and for regional magazines.

"Jeff has a real passion for community journalism," Bryant said. "He's committed to the ideal of the local newspaper as a vital part of the community."
