New member drive was not a ploy
As a member of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association, I wish to convey my strong dissatisfaction with how the WGNA board has chosen to handle the solicitation of prospective association members by Able Printing. The WGNA Board was definitely NOT representing me as WGNA member when it chose to react in such a negative manner to what Able Printing was doing.
I have known the people at Able Printing for years and know that they had no ulterior motives or hidden agenda in trying to recruit WGNA members. All they were doing was trying to help fulfill one of WGNA's goals--the recruitment of new members.
One wonders why a January 1988 WGNA newsletter complimented some members for recruiting new members yet when Able Printing tries to get some new members, all sorts of bizarre and uncalled-for things are read into it. Makes one wonder if there is some sort of ideological litmus test you have to pass in order to do anything for WGNA.
As for the matter of people from outside of Willow Glen trying to join WGNA ... I know that it is very common for organizations to have members on their rosters from outside their service areas. If WGNA wanted only people from Willow Glen to belong, that fact should have been very clearly stated on the membership application. You can't play by the rules if you don't know what the rules are.
It is bothersome to me as a WGNA member that there was no open discussion of the proposed bylaws changes at the May 19 general meeting, nor were representatives of Able Printing permitted to give their side of the issue.
I thought that in this country you were innocent until proven guilty, but the WGNA board must think the opposite allies, or they would have given Able Printing an opportunity to tell their side of the issue to the board.
The party who commented in the May 19 Resident (Joanne Cordova) was right on the mark with her comments about WGNA and how it tries to bully the community and I admire her courage in daring to speak what I believe is the truth about WGNA.
Able Printing did nothing wrong in trying to solicit new WGNA members and I would like to see the WGNA board do the right thing by issuing a full and unconditional apology to Able Printing for the public grief their outlandish statements have caused.
