Hobbs named division's MVP
Linerud, Sarinara win special honors

Bobby Hobbs was quite a valuable player for the Willow Glen baseball team this past spring. And as it turns out, it wasn't just Rams coach Gary Rose who thought so.
Hobbs was selected as the most valuable player in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League after his sensational senior season for the Rams.
Hobbs posted a 10-0 mound record to held lead the Rams to the division championship and into the Central Coast Section playoffs.
The senior hurler topped a list of seven Willow Glen baseball players to win all-league honors, and he was one of three area athletes to win special honors on an all-league list.
Presentation standout Shannon Linerud was named the junior of the year in the Mount Hamilton Division of the BVAL in girls softball, and Willow Glen star Mark Sarinara was tabbed the junior of the year in the Mount Hamilton Division in boys volleyball.
Hobbs was joined on the all-league list by pitcher Matt Durkin, shortstop Mike DeBono, third baseman Daniel Rice, catcher Al Rideau and outfielder Scott Wallberg. The seniors were all named to the all-league first team.
Senior outfielder Luis Pacheco was picked to the all-league second team for the Rams.
Pioneer players winning all-league honors in the Santa Teresa Division included senior third baseman Brian Gilbert, a first-team pick, and second-teamers Mitch Balli, a junior pitcher-first baseman; John Fields, a junior pitcher-first baseman; and Sean Sarsfield, a senior shortstop.
Linerud topped a list of four Panthers who earned all-league honors in softball in the Mount Hamilton Division. The junior pitcher-shortstop was named the junior of the year and was joined on the all-league list by senior third sacker Jana Arde, a first-team selection, and senior shortstop Christina Dolores and senior infielder Adriana St. Cin, both second-teamers.
Willow Glen's Janelle Calderon won an all-league spot in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL. The sophomore shortstop-pitcher was picked to the all-league second team.
Pioneer was well represented on that squad with third sacker Megan Hagquist the sophomore of the year and senior pitcher Leslie Adcock and junior first baseman Annie Garcia each winning first-team spots.
Sarinara was a special honors winner in boys volleyball in the Mount Hamilton Division of the BVAL. The outside hitter was tagged the junior of the year in the division.
Junior outside hitter Mason Zinniel and junior middle hitter Kailen Yoppini were each named to the all-league first team and junior setter Jesse Cruz and junior setter Zach Loya were each picked to the second team.
In the Santa Teresa, Kevin Isaacson of Pioneer was named the junior of the year. The outside hitter was joined on the all-league list by senior setter Greg Lara and senior middle blocker Curtis Beavers, who were each first-team picks, and senior outside hitter Martin Glinka, a second-team choice.
