    Special Olympics

    The Special Olymics summer season is about to begin, and coaches are needed for the eight-week program.     Wheelchair Relay Race on June 17

    The "Chariots of Fire" Wheelchair Relay Race, featuring 10 teams of disabled and able-bodied young people from the Digitally Abled Producers Project, will be held on June 17, 9 a.m., at the Sunnyvale Town Center.

    The race is part of Digital Picnic 2000, an event to raise public awareness about the needs of people with disabilities.

    South Bay Soccer

    The South Bay Youth Soccer League will hold signups for the 2000 season on June 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the River Glen Little League Park, corner of Bird and Pine in San Jose, and 3-5 p.m. at the Lincoln High School soccer field, corner of Dana and Hester.

    The league is looking for players, and also for parents to get involved. The league will sponsor coaching clinics to help those new to the game learn the sport.

    PAL football signups on tap

    Willow Glen PAL, a youth tackle football group affiliated with the Police Athletic League, is holding signups for players and cheerleaders for the 2000 season.

    PAL Soccer Signups

    Willow Glen PAL offers a youth soccer program for boys and girls ages 5-15. Registration will be held June 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at River Glen Park for the season that begins Sept. 9.

    Players must provide a small photo, and new players must provide proof of age. The cost is $55 per player. For more information, call 408.265.2144.

    Baseball Tryouts

    The San Jose Cobras Youth Baseball Club, a traveling team for players ages 12 and under, is holding tryouts for the spring and summer seasons. Players must have all-star or tournament experience. For more information, call Brent Hatfield at 408.978.8183.
