    The Resident's new logo

It's been seven years since Willow Glen resident David Cohen, the Resident's publisher, wrote a column that celebrated the joys of living in Willow Glen in a column that championed the community's favorite critters. "I moved to Willow Glen for the trees and squirrels," he wrote.

This week, finally, the Resident is proud to introduce a new logotype, designed by noted area designer Rick Tharp, along with a new mascot.

Mr. Tharp previously designed logos for two other Silicon Valley Community Newspapers publications, the Los Gatos Weekly-Times and the Cupertino Courier. Mr. Tharp's studio, Tharp Did It, has created identities for Le Boulanger Bakeries, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, VTA, San Jose Stage Company, the Santa Clara Office of Education, Old Town Los Gatos, Mirassou Vineyards and Steamer's restaurant. Add the Resident to this impressive list.

Executive editor Dan Pulcrano, design director Foster Barnes and production designer Robin Mendez helped art direct the logo and integrate it into the Resident's format.

In publisher Cohen's introductory essay, he described this newspaper's mission, stated as a promise: "The Willow Glen Resident will reflect all the great things we all love about this community. A community paper needs to serve as the vehicle for communication between residents, businesses and officials. It's the place for residents to debate and discuss and disagree. The community paper is the old town green or community center of the old days."

During the six months that I have had the privilege of serving as the editor of the Resident, I have been proud to see our staff living up to the promise made in these pages seven years ago. On behalf of SVCN's local shareholders, and also reporter Jessica Lyons, photographer Skye Dunlap, ad rep Jennifer Bell, incoming editor Tai Moses and the rest of the Silicon Valley Community Newspapers staff, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our readers for making us a part of their lives, and this community.
