AARP schools seniors in resisting scam artists

"How to avoid telemarket fraud" will be the topic of discussion at a meeting of the Willow Glen Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. The free meeting will be held Monday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m., at the Willows Senior Center at 2175 Lincoln Ave. It is open to the public.

Bob Francis, an AARP volunteer serving as AARP associate state coordinator for community operations, will speak. He was recently appointed to the advisory committee of the Santa Clara County Council on Aging.

Francis will warn about how scam artists make themselves out to be nice people to their victims, and will give advice on how to avoid being taken in. He said telemarketing scams hit people of all ages and backgrounds.
