Willow Glen Legion Post 318 is winning
A run-scoring double by Samir Ghia and a couple of two-run singles by Brian Davis and Kevin Mack sparked a seven-run rally in the sixth to lead the Willow Glen American Legion Post 318 baseball team to a 10-9 win over Mission City last week.
Willow Glen, made up mostly of players from the Pioneer High School baseball program, battled back from a 7-2 deficit for the win, and backed that up with a 7-1 win over Half Moon Bay on Saturday.
Post 318 now boasts a 7-1 record in the summer season.
Brian Gilbert tossed four strong innings to get the win against Mission City.
Anthony Jimenez, a product of the Willow Glen Little League, ripped three hits and knocked in two runs in the win, and Ghia and Davis had two hits apiece. Mack, Gilbert, Sean Farrell and Thomas Ash also had hits in the win.
Farrell went the distance to toss a four-hitter for Post 318 in Saturday's 7-1 win over Half Moon Bay.
Mack and Shishir Ghia slapped two hits apiece to lead the offensive attack in the victory. Gilbert, Davis and Mike Nakamura also had hits for the locals.
Post 318 was coming off a three-game sweep over Monta Vista the weekend before. Willow Glen whipped Monta Vista 12-5 in a single game, then swept a doubleheader 8-3 and 6-2.
Matt Palacios had seven hits in the series, and Mack had six including a home run. Farrell finished the weekend with five hits, Davis and Kevin Sparrer had four apiece, and Sean Hallihan had three.
