Willow Glen sun shines in Oregon

We wish to take time off our very busy schedule of unpacking all of our belongings after just packing them after selling our home on Janis Way in Willow Glen and moving to Albany, Oregon. We want to publicly thank Linda Cato and Suzette Winters for the fun-filled potluck celebration they had for us that included all the Janis Way neighbors, children and other folks. It was great!

We will miss them all and Willow Glen after residing there for 49 wonderful years. But time marches on and it was time to be near our daughter Carol, who graduated from Willow Glen High in 1971 and moved to Albany, where she resides with her husband and our two grandchildren. We left on the 19th of May and the folks here say we brought the sunshine with us, as it has not rained since our arrival.

    Adios and thank you again.

    George and Elaine Davis

Station Six should keep hose, firefighter

On behalf of the Rose Garden Neighborhood Preservation Association, I would like to voice our opposition to the proposal to remove the hose wagon and one firefighter from Willow Glen Fire Station Six. We believe this will reduce the level of service needed to adequately protect Willow Glen residents. Given the city's rapid growth, the RGNPA is concerned that fire services to older, established neighborhoods be maintained.

The main reason for our opposition it that one of the primary functions of this hose wagon is to respond as a second vehicle in the engine company and be available to respond separately to non-emergency calls. With the hose wagon gone, the single, full-service fire engine would have to take such calls, thus reducing fire coverage in the area. This could cause a potentially dangerous situation.

We are also concerned that staffing of the Fire Station 31 comes from redeployment of firefighters from existing stations like Fire Station Six. While we believe that all areas of the city must have sufficient fire coverage, we think it should be achieved through the hiring of more firefighters.

Thank you for your attention to this issue.

    Ken Yeager
    Vice President, RGNPA
