Summer sports camps





    Sports Briefs

    YMCA Day Camps

    The Central YMCA will host summer camps for youngsters and teen-agers throughout the summer months.

    The Summer Day Camp program for youth ages 5-14 includes swimming, field trips, park days, games, sports and craft projects.

    Sports Day Camps for youngsters ages 5-12 include boys and girls basketball, roller hockey, soccer, swimming, ice skating, golf, tennis and T-ball, baseball and softball programs. Camps run for one week each.

    Teen Specialty Day camps include the Junior High Surf and Kayak Camp, Bay Area Bicycling Camp, Junior High Climbing Camp, Junior Lifeguard Camp, Junior High Arts Camp, Teen Media Camp and Community Service Camp.

    Camps run throughout the summer and are held Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Central YMCA, 1717 The Alameda. For more information, call 298-1717.

    Youth Football

    The Willow Glen PAL football program will hold signups for players and cheerleaders ages 8-14 each Thursday through June, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Straw Hat Pizza Parlor, 1535 Meridian Ave. For more information, call 723-3307.

    Youth Soccer

    The Willow Glen PAL soccer program is holding signups for players ages 5-16 interested in playing in the fall season. The cost is $55 per player, and new players must provide a copy of their birth certificates. For more information, call 265-2144.

    Girls Hoop Tourney

    The first Los Gatos Basketball Tournament for girls varsity and junior varsity is set for July 9-11. All teams are guaranteed four games, and the entry fee is $250 per team.

    There will be three-on-three competition, a three-point shootout and free throw contests, and the event is open to all girls entering grades nine-12.

    Roller Hockey

    Roller hockey league registration is under way for youngsters in the 8-and-under, 10-and-under and 14-and-under divisions and for juniors in the 18-and-under division at the in-line sports hockey center.

    There are also adult beginner and intermediate leagues and women's league competition.
