Chris Abracosa named all-leaguer

Willow Glen sophomore Chris Abracosa was a first-team selection when the volleyball coaches in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League got together to name their all-league team.

Abracosa was a star outside hitter for the Rams.

Summer All-Star Football Game

The 24th annual Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game, featuring the best high school seniors from the Santa Clara County, will return to San Jose State University's Spartan Stadium on July 22.

The legendary Wedemeyer will be on hand to greet the players prior to the 7 p.m. kick-off. The football game is sponsored each summer by the Almaden Valley Rotary Club, and proceeds go to the Rotary charity and scholarship programs.

PAL Soccer

The Willow Glen PAL soccer organization is currently holding registration for the fall season for players ages 5-17. The cost is $50 per player. For more information, call 265-2144.

PAL Football

The Willow Glen PAL football organization is now holding signups for boys and girls ages 8-14 interested in playing football or becoming cheerleaders in the fall season. The group is also looking for adult coaches and an equipment manager. For mor information, call 723-3307.

Adult Softball

Registration is currently under way for the 10-game summer season in the San Jose Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored adult softball leagues.

Men's, women's and mixed slow-pitch leagues will play Sunday through Friday nights, and the cost per team for the season is $545 with two umpires or $485 with one.

The men's modified fast-pitch league is set for Thursday night, and the cost is $600 per team or $60 per players.

Pop Warner openings remain

Openings remain for players and cheerleaders for the fall season in the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association.

The Los Gatos Panthers has openings for players ages 12-14 who weigh 120-145 pounds. For more information, call 270-1443.

Girls ages 8-14 who live in the Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Willow Glen school districts can sign up to become cheerleaders in the fall season. For more information, call 353-8697.

Triathlon at Lake Almaden

The San Jose International Triathlon will be held June 28 at Lake Almaden on Almaden Expressway in San Jose. Competitors will complete a 1K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run. The entry fee is $80 for individuals or $125 for relays.

The event will also feature a mountain bike/sprint triathlon on June 27. Athletes will compete in a 500-yard swim, 10-mile bike ride and 3-mile run. The entry fee is $45.

Giants Fireworks

The San Jose Giants will present special fireworks displays after California League games on July 4 and 5 at San Jose Municipal Stadium, and reserved tickets are currently on sale.

A limited number of box seats are available for the two games that are annual sellouts. Tickets are priced at $9 each, and there is a limit of four tickets per person. The San Jose Muni box office is open noon- 6 p.m. on weekdays.

General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids and seniors for all games, but seats are not reserved.
