Sedillo-Glatt, Garcia rank among league's top pitchers

By Dick Sparrer

For a fast-pitch softball team to be successful, its pitcher much be successful.

And you'd get no argument on that score from the girls' softball coaches in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this spring.

After all, the coaches selected six pitchers to their all-league team at the season's end, with Pioneer's Maria Sedillo-Glatt topping the list.

Sedillo-Glatt was named the most valuable pitcher in the league after leading the Mustangs to the Santa Teresa Division championship.

Sedillo-Glatt, who played her first two high school seasons at Presentation, took over the pitching chores for the Mustangs as a junior, but really came into her own as the star hurler for Pioneer this past season.

She led the Mustangs to the division title in a tight race with Del Mar, then went on to win the league's top honor for a pitcher, as well as picking up a place on the all-Central Coast Section honorable mention list.

Nicki Garcia of Willow Glen was another of six pitchers honored by the league's coaches this spring. The junior sensation was named to the all-league first team.

Joining Sedillo-Glatt on the all-league team for Pioneer were senior left fielder Anastasia Beavers, sophomore catcher Amy Thornhill and junior third sacker Stephanie Noble.

Beavers also earned a place on the all-CCS honorable mention roll.

Del Mar junior Jennifer Nixon was the most valuable player in the Santa Teresa Division.
