Lincoln Glen Little League seniors will host regionals

    By Dick Sparrer

The Lincoln Glen Little League senior division all-stars would like nothing better than to play in the Western Regional tournament this August.

But even if the local 'stars don't get there, Lincoln Glen will be very much involved.

Because the area league will host the prestigious event that begins Aug. 5 with a pair of games at Markham Middle School. The winner of that tournament advances to the Senior World Series.

"Only four leagues in the country will be holding regional tournaments," said Lincoln Glen's Larry Schaffer. "We at Lincoln Glen Little League are proud to be one of four."

The Lincoln Glen senior all-stars will open post-season play next week when they face the Almaden-Cambrian first-round winner at Ida Price Middle School, July 13 at 5:30 p.m. Willow Glen opens on July 12, 5:30 p.m., against Branham Hills at Price.

Members of the Lincoln Glen senior all-star team include Andrew Alves, Douglas Dionne, Jimmy Garcia, Michael Glomb, Andrew Kawahara, Nathan McDonald, Tista Perri, Bobby Ralston, Will Shaffer, Kevin Shull, Michael Wittmayer, Adam Wright, Daniel Yoder and Dustin Yoder.

Michael Ralston is the club's manager and Schaffer and Dave Wittmayer are his coaches.

Ralston and his coaching staff also led the Lincoln Glen Film Wave club to an 11-3 record and into the District 12 Tournament of Champions.

Dionne, Glomb, Ralston, Shaffer, Shull, Wittmayer, Da. Yoder and Du. Yoder played for the club along with Keith Doleshel, Giancarlo Galindo, Bryson Reedy, Matthew Rodriguez and Brett Yoshihara.

The club opened the district TOC with a 6-3 win over the Union Padres and were to face the Cambrian Twins in the semifinals.

The Little League major division all-star tournament began for District 12 clubs last weekend with Willow Glen and Lincoln Glen colliding in a first-round game on Saturday.

The winner of the Saturday game will face the Quite Little League all-stars on July 5, 5:30 p.m., and the loser will take on the Almaden-Cambrian loser on July 7, 5:30 p.m. All games are played at the Los Gatos Little League home field at Blossom Hill Park.

The tournament will continue Saturday in Los Gatos.
