    Little League All-Star Tournament

Tournament host Branham Hills had a bit of advantage in the first round of the District 12 Little League all-star tournament for 9-10 age division teams.

The Branham Hills kids faced an early bye in the tournament and had the opportunity to watch Quito and Lincoln Glen battle it out in a first-round game, knowing that they would play the winner.

It turns out, though, that it wasn't much of an advantage-- Quito saw to that.

Quito opened the tournament with a 10-3 win over Lincoln Glen, then came back three days later to knock Branham Hills into the tournament loser's bracket with a 7-3 victory.

Quito was the only team in the tourney with two wins heading into the July 4th weekend. Los Gatos No. 2 opened with a 9-8 win over Almaden No. 2, but then lost 18-1 to Almaden No. 1. And Union pounded American 12-2 before losing 10-0 to Los Gatos No. 1.

The Saratoga Little Leaguers opened with a tight 4-3 win over Cambrian Park, but wouldn't play their second game until July 5 when they battled Willow Glen.

The tournament continues this week with American facing host Branham Hills on July 6, Cambrian colliding with Los Gatos No. 2 on July 7, Lincoln Glen meeting Union on July 8 and Almaden battling the Willow Glen-Saratoga loser on July 9 in 5:30 p.m. loser's bracket games.

Winner's bracket resumes on July 10 with Quito playing Almaden No. 1 at 10 a.m. and Los Gatos No. 1 squaring off with the Saratoga-Willow Glen winner at 12:30 p.m.

The tournament runs through July 19 (July 20 if necessary) at the Branham Hills Little League on Ross Avenue off of Branham Lane in San Jose.
