The Willow Glen Resident'Stars head to district playWillow Glen, Lincoln Glen in District 12 12-year-old tourneyBy Dick Sparrer It's only the beginning, but it's the stuff dreams are made of. The 12-year-old Little League teams of District 12 start the trip this week that they hope will lead down the road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., later this summer. Winning the district championship is the first step that any team must take in the quest for the coveted berth in Pennsylvania. The 10-team District 12 tourney is being played at Baggerly Field, the home of the Los Gatos Little League on Blossom Hill Road in Blossom Hill Park. The tourney was to begin on July 6 when the Union Little League and American Little League all-stars were to collide. Host Los Gatos faced Saratoga on July 7, 5:30 p.m., with the Lincoln Glen Little League and the Branham Hills Little League to square off on July 8, 5:30 p.m. Play continues Thursday with the Almaden Little League all-stars battling the winner of the Union-American first-round game. A day later, Quito Little League will take on the Los Gatos-Saratoga winner. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m. The Willow Glen Little League opens the day on Saturday. Willow Glen will take on Cambrian Park at 9 a.m. Loser's bracket games will follow at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 10. The tournament will run through July 22, with an "if necessary" game scheduled for July 23. All games are played at the Los Gatos field.
