Former stars were forgotten

Two Willow Glen football stars were inadvertently left off the list when the Resident published the names of the former Rams who have played in the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star High School Football Game.

Bryan Navarrette played for the South squad in 1996, and Tim Hare played for the South in 1997.

The 24th annual Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game is July 22 at Spartan Stadium. The 7 p.m. football game is sponsored each summer by the Almaden Valley Rotary Club, and proceeds go to the Rotary charity and scholarship programs.

Miller homers

Bellarmine's Grant Miller pounded a two-run homer to lead the Pioneer American Legion baseball team to a 13-10 win over Mission City last Saturday.

Miller also singled in the game for Pioneer. Kevin Sparrer had three hits in the win and Jim DePrez singled twice to drive in three runs. Brian Roy and Jamel Choudry also had two hits apiece for Pioneer. Kevin Mack came on in relief of Sean Farrell to pick up the pitching win.

PAL football

The Willow Glen PAL football organization will hold signups for boys and girls ages 8-14 interested in playing football or becoming cheerleaders in the fall season. Signups will be held July 14 and 21, 6-7:30 p.m., at the Straw Hat Pizza Parlor, 1535 Meridian Ave. For more information, call 723-3307.

Annual Camp With the Pros

South Bay Baseball presents its annual Camp With the Pros this summer for all baseball players, ages 7-12.

Camps are set for July 20-24 at the old Blackford High School campus, 3800 Blackford Ave., and Aug. 3-7 at John Muir Middle School, 1260 Branham Lane. The cost is $99 per player, but group rates are available. Players are grouped by age and skill level.

Roger Samuels, a former pitcher for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates, is the camp director and Mark Cummins, a former Santa Clara University and professional infielder who has been the head baseball coach at Live Oak for the past 13 years, is the director of instruction.

Camp hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. For more information, call Samuels at 264-9233.
