    Summertime walking tours

    The Guadalupe River Park and Gardens is offering summer walking tours of the grounds.

    The first tour will be July 21 and another is planned for Sept. 22. The tours begin at the Garden Center, 715 Spring St., and run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. They include a bus ride to the park's south end at Woz Way; an explanation of the park and its flood control project, public art and future park features; and walks through the Heritage Rose Garden, Historic Orchard and Demonstrated Recycled Water Garden.

    Each tour costs $10 per person, $7.50 for members of the Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Corporation. Tour size is limited, and reservations are required. For more information, call Kary Wilson at 408.298.7657.

    County counsel launches website

    The office of the county counsel launched its website July 11.

    The website, www.santaclaracounty.org/countycounsel, provides information about its programs and services to the public and county employees. It also lists its community involvement and past accomplishments.

    The office serves as the county's legal arm and works in areas of government, human services, child dependency, civil and affirmative litigation and law and justice.

    Chamber asks for nominations

    The San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominees to serve on its board of directors.

    The nominating committee will review candidates for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2002, and announce its choices to the chamber's membership in late September.

    Pay phone prices go up this week

    Local pay phone calls will cost 50 cents starting this week. SBC Communications, the parent company of Pacific Bell, said it would be raising the price because of increased operating costs and the declining usage of public pay phones because of wireless phones and prepaid phone cards.
