Alzheimer's program coming to San Jose

The nonprofit Greater San Francisco Bay Area Alzheimer's Association will present a free program providing an overview of Alzheimer's and related disorders titled, "Alzheimer's: Beginning to Cope (ABC)," Friday, July 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the John XXXIII Multiservice Center, 195 E. San Fernando.

The program will be presented by Edie Yau, multicultural program manager for the Alzheimer's Association Greater San Francisco Bay Area. Yau is responsible for helping expand services to communities of color throughout the greater Bay Area. She previously worked with elders in San Francisco as an in-home supportive services case manager, coordinator for an information and referral program and a hospice volunteer. She holds a master's degree in gerontology from San Francisco State University.

By the year 2040, when aging baby boomers are expected to be especially vulnerable if no cure has been found, the Bay Area population with Alzheimer's or a related dementia is expected to grow to 250,000 from the current 70,000. Call 650.962.8111.
