    Volleyball League

    The United States Youth Volleyball League will begin an eight-week league season for on Sept. 11 at Houge Park in San Jose.

    The coed instructional league is open to players ages 8-14, and the cost of $90 per player includes a uniform top and other equipment. Registration will continue through Aug. 15. For information, call 888.988.7985, or check the website at www.usyvl.org.

    Santa Clara Baseball School

    The annual Santa Clara Baseball School returns to Santa Clara University this summer under the direction of Mike Cummins and Lou Lucas.

    A session for players ages 9-16 will be held July 23-27. Instruction in basic fundamentals and hitting runs 9 a.m.-noon, and the cost is $130 per player. A pitching only clinic runs 1-2:30 p.m. and the cost is $75 per player.

    San Jose State camps for youth

    San Jose State University baseball coach Sam Piraro will head up the annual SJSU summer baseball camps for players ages 6-17 again this summer.

    Specialty camps are slated for July 23-27 (pitching camp for ages 9-12, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; hitting camp for ages 12-17, 2-4 p.m.) and July 30-Aug. 3 (pitching camp for ages 13-17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; hitting camp for ages 12-17, 2-4 p.m.). The cost is $125 per player (both sessions $200).

    Piraro is the camp director and will be assisted by SJSU assistant coaches Doug Thurman and Dean Madsen, as well as local high school and junior college coaches.

    Freestyle Program

    Willow Glen will begin a freestyle wrestling program for those ages 6-18 interested in learning how to wrestle. The group meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-6:30 p.m., in the small gym at Willow Glen. For more information, call Willow Glen wrestling coach Phil Luna at 408.629.6881.

    PAL Football

    The Willow Glen Rams is currently holding signups for the fall 2001 youth tackle football season beginning. Willow Glen fields four teams in PAL play. For more information, call Chris Rohr at 408.723.3307.
