The Glen's late hours are in conflict with the General Plan's guidelines for bars
I and many of those who oppose a 2 a.m. closing, do not wish to debate this issue with The Glen owners or supporters because, while they are affected by our opposition it is frankly not about them--it is a conflict in implementing and adhering to the city of San Jose's General Plan.
The General Plan includes the "24-Hour Use Policy" and the "Guidelines for Nightclubs and Bars," which protects neighborhoods.
This plan applies to the entire city of San Jose. It has, obviously, been a very successful plan given the successful growth and development of the Lincoln Avenue neighborhood business district and the continued increase in real estate values for residents. Willow Glen, thus far, is an excellent model of how residents and businesses can BOTH benefit from a well-thought-out plan--but this can only continue if we stick to the General Plan and maintain a healthy and positive symbiotic relationship between WG residents, businesses and the city of San Jose.
We are NOT opposed to the operation of The Glen, but we are opposed to a 2 a.m. closing because The Glen does not meet the requirements of the General Plan's 24-Hour Use Policy and the "Guidelines for Nightclubs and Bars."

The sidewalks of Willow Glen are worse than cracked
I recently read the article in the June 23 issue of The Resident regarding the needed repairs of our Willow Glen sidewalk.
For the past two-and-a-half years, my husband and I have been walking to Willow Glen, practically every day, and due to the un-evenness and cracks in the sidewalk I had two very serious falls--one of which I am still recovering from. I was taken to a plastic surgeon and had several stitches on the inside and outside of my mouth and lip. I was also badly bruised on the side of my face.
This happened near the intersection of Lincoln and Minnesota avenues. I was quickly offered help by three teacher's aides; but I neglected to get their names, as I wanted to thank them for their kindness.
I was pleased that Mayor Gonzalez is recommending that the city provide staff and equipment for improvment of the sidewalk problems.
