The Willow Glen ResidentLettersGlen neighborhoods embrace diversity I moved to Willow Glen after raising my children in and living in Los Gatos for 20 years, where we were part of a very strong, supportive community. My husband and I enjoy living in Willow Glen now, and I'd like to share my appreciation. We live on Settle Avenue, where Oscar Perez was murdered, and I'm thankful that our community joined together to have a memorial gathering. I also want to express my thanks to all the Lincoln Avenue businesses that supported the Gay Pride events. I am thankful to live in an area that embraces the celebration of diversity. I am proud to live in Willow Glen.
Kim Fredericks Firefighters meet the neighborhood people Just a short thank you to our everyday heroes. We have held our annual neighborhood barbecue at our house for the past 11 years now. Your June 3 item about the firefighters at Willow Glen's Station 6 wanting to get out and meet their neighbors came at the perfect time. I called and talked to the captain on duty--I believe it was John Castro--and invited them to our barbecue so we could meet them. Not only did they take time out of their busy schedule to drop by, but they brought not one but two firetrucks so the kids could take tours through them. All the neighborhood kids, my son David and all my nieces and nephews got a big bang out of it. So to our "everyday heroes," I thank you for going beyond the call of duty and brightening our day. You are definitely invited next year; hope you'll come.
Denis W. Leyva Reporter needs to read own paper In the July 15 sports section of The Resident, Dick Sparrer correctly talks about the District 12 Little League All Stars. Unfortunately, one week later in the July 22 issue, John Pancharian shows he doesn't read his own paper when he writes that "Willow Glen and Lincoln Glen might soon have to find a new place to play their All-Star and Tournament of Champions games. The games have been played on the Spartan Little League fields on the county fairgrounds ... Richard Schooner, administrator for Little League District 59, which includes Willow Glen, Lincoln Glen and Spartan ..." That news will come as a big surprise for Pat Patterson, district administrator of Little League District 12 where Willow Glen and Lincoln Glen are located. It is this kind of sloppy reporting that detracts a great deal from the impression that The Resident really knows what it is writing about.
