Dammit Run returns
The 27th annual Dammit Run returns to Los Gatos on Aug. 12.
As races go, this is a tough one. And anyone who has ever made the dusty climb to the face of Lexington Dam and back knows it.
The race will start tamely enough on the track at Los Gatos High School, and it will finish in the same location. But in between, runners had best be prepared for the rocky, dusty trip into the foothills to Lexington.
Race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., and the starting gun will blast at 8:30 a.m. Runners can preregister at Athletic Performance, 55 W. Main St., or at the Runners Factory, 51 University Ave., through Aug. 10.
The preregistration entry fee is $8 ($20 with a T-shirt), and the fee is $15 on race day ($30 with a T-shirt). T-shirts alone are priced at $15 and will be sold at the track on race day or in advance at Runners Factory and Athletic Performance. Proceeds from the Dammit go to benefit the Los Gatos High School Track Repair Fund.

Special Olympics
With the summer season drawing to a close, plans are already under way for the Special Olympics fall season.
Volunteers are needed for sports training in soccer, long distance running and power lifting. Coaches are needed for the eight-week season, and no experience is necessary.
A volunteer orientation meeting is set for Aug. 8, 7 p.m., at the Special Olympics office on Chambertin Drive in San Jose. For more information, call 408.267.2734 or check their website at www.sonc.org/sccso.
Camp with the Pros
The 10th annual Camp With the Pros, a summer baseball camp for players ages 7-12, returns to the Santa Clara Valley in August.
The final camp session will be held Aug. 7-11 at De Anza Park in San Jose. Hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day, and camp fees are $109 per player.
Camp director is Roger Samuels, a former Branham High School and Santa Clara University star who went on to pitch for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates. Director of instruction is Mark Cummins, a former Santa Clara University infielder who went on to play professional baseball and has worked as the head baseball coach at Live Oak High School for the past 15 years.
The camp will feature instruction in fundamentals, sportsmanship and self-discipline in a small group atmosphere.
For more information, call Samuels at 408.264.9233.
Lincoln Glen to host Western Regional
The Lincoln Glen Little League will play host to many of the top teams in the nation beginning this weekend when the league hosts the Senior Western Regional tournament at Patric Field at Markham Middle School.
The tournament is one of just four of its kind being played from Aug. 5-9. The winner of each tournament will advance to the Senior Division World Series in Florida.
First-round games are slated for Aug. 5, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Markham. The winners will play on Aug. 6, 3 p.m., with the losers meeting Aug. 6, noon, on the same field.
A final loser's bracket game is set for Aug. 7, 5:30 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for Aug. 8, 5:30 p.m. An "if necessary" game would be played Aug. 9, 5:30 p.m.
