    Junior Olympic water polo event

The high school water polo season won't begin until September, but polo fans can certainly get their fill of top-notch action this week when the National Junior Olympic water polo championships are played in local pool.

A field of 330 top boys and girls teams from all over the country, including over 3,000 athletes, will compete in the event that features many of the outstanding young polo players who will star for their high school teams this fall.

The tournament runs Aug. 8-14 at area pools, with the girls championship game set for Aug. 11 and the boys championship set for Aug. 14 at Independence. Some of the tournament games will be played at the Willow Glen High School pool with the help of the Willow Glen Water Polo Club, under the direction of head coach Scott Kaubish.
